“Spicy Maratha missal joint and I will rate it among top 5 in Pune but be prepared to wait for your turn.”
It was Sunday post noon and we decided to have Missal on the way back home from Laxmi Road.
There were no hassles for parking but needed to park a bit away from the place.
Took the token at 2:46 PM; token called in was 235 and we got 269. We were told that expected waiting time was 45 minutes to 1 hour. While waiting outside I observed that patrons were from all age groups ranging from college going, families, old age groups etc. It took 45 minutes to get the place.
Under the cool shade of trees around there are many steel benches outside the restaurant for patrons to wait for their turn. There is one big hall having good natural illumination and closely spaced steel furniture. You will need to share the table with others if you are not in group of 4 or more. It is typical Maharshtrian restaurant type ambiance.
Sadly, butter milk and curd were sold out. We were among last few and later the missal was also over.
Missal was available in two types of “CUT / RUSSA”, spicy and medium. We went ahead with “medium” option. While the missal was served in small bowl the shiny red RASSA was served in a tumbler. Onion and Lemon slices are served additionally too in a bowl.
RASSA was spicier but less hot with appropriate usage of chili and not unnecessary. Since we were among the last few to get it, the bottom portion of the tumbler had thick layer of grounded spices. I tried tasting the thick broth and it was really “THASKEDAAR”.
Pav were fresh and soft. Restaurant was liberal with Onion and Lemon indicating the interest of restaurant to serve you in your desired way so that you can enjoy the preparation.
Service was nice and staff was polite.
Two Missals, a few extra JODI PAV, Bottled water total Rs 140.
