It was late night Marine Drive visit sometime back; hungry and looking for Indian vegetarian option; we landed at Soam at about 10 30 PM.

Nice and humble valet. Place was packed and waiting time told 30 to 40 minutes. We were about to move on but then I thought to peep inside and take a call based on scenario. Quick visit to washroom gave the opportunity to assess the situation as well as what the other patrons having; and I decided to wait.

We got a table in about 30 minutes and decided to go for combos/thali option as they were said to be quick. Also asked for “farsan”(what they call titbits in Gujrat).
Closely spaced tables to maximize utilization of floor space. Light bright colors on the walls and furniture. Little noisy place. Quick and courteous staff (except the floor manager who had objection about me clicking pictures of food and menu for writing reference though he said he can give me a takeaway menu to make my job easy… nevermind).

Menu with dominance of Gujrti-Rajasthani preparations. Popular Mumbai and Maharashtrian preparations, beverages and desserts (interesting menu I would say).

Farsan Platter… to start with. It was micro-platter with 2 pieces each of Patti Samosa, Vadi, Ghughra and one Dhokla. Samosa was filled with wet mushy cheese and spinach, Vadis were soft and mellow from inside having mild cumin flavour, Dhokla was low on tang with dense sponge texture and Ghughra were with pease filling.

Mutar ni Puri with Dahiwala Batata ki Bhaji combo… mildly spicy, cumin powder dominated pease masala stuffed Puris of decent size served along with boiled potatoes in buttermilk based little sour thin yellow gravy (crackled mustard seeds flavour/taste).

Methi Nu Thepla with Lal Batata Nu Sag combo… Non greasy, soft Theplas served along with red chilli and onion based Sabji of boiled potatoes. One of the best potato preparation I have ever eaten with taste of properly done onions.

Paneer stuffed Paratha with Chole… Parathas having soft and thin coating with Paneer and Mint based stuffing served along with black masala based Chole.

Water served at perfectly cold temperature.

Neat and clean environment!

Food with unmatched taste. Easy on pocket… it was worth waiting 30 minutes and this place deserves 4 out of 5.

Busy place consider waiting time as well.
Careful when you take pictures because floor manager does not like it (or give a damn!).
Valet parking (evening time when I visited).
That Pan Walah on the left prepares nice Pan and serves the last customer out as well!
