Food Blog and Reviews by Ashish Tiwari

Ashish Reviews – Pune and Beyond

About Me…

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” (George Bernard Shaw)… Love with food started very early in life as I was blessed with grandparents who were having great inclination towards food… I was lucky to spend a lot of time with them. While my maternal grandpa was a great foodie; paternal grandpa possessed excellent culinary skills. Accompanying and spending time with both of them… I learnt usage of mortar-pestle, cooking traditional food in rustic way, blending spices, preparing dips-pickles-chutneys and much more.

Love with food kept on growing over the years and honing of culinary skills is still in progress.

Frequent traveling around Asia-pacific, Europe and Americas brought the opportunity to get exposed to different food cultures, cuisines and brews.

Inspired by… “The secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.” (Mark Twain)…Wherever I went; always preferred experimenting, tasting new things, trying local delicacies, cuisines and brews without bothering about end result (at times it was not very good for health). I have tried popular and not so popular places right from street carts to lavish places.

Just sharing my “food and drink journey” and experience using the blog.

Well!!! I am an Automobile Engineer by profession but a self-proclaimed Chef, Food Critique and Beer Enthusiast by passion without any formal Gyan… only what I have earned “hands-on”.

Normal person with abnormal appetite… living to cook, eat and drink.

  8. Hello there, very interesting and informative blog. I am interested in setting up a new Micro Brewery in Pune. Regarding the same (challenges, scope, investment, risks, etc.) can you please guide regarding all the process? Please let me know next steps. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hey thanks for interest. I am not a consultant yet I will share with you; what I know.

What I have learnt from majority of operating breweries as well as breweries with everything in place but awaiting license etc (waiting the file to clear 15 tables), what goes further which is not good in the system (I don’t want to write) …
“If you are patient enough and with deep pockets to have invested in equipment, rented out a premises or your own, set up equipment, waiting for license to brew and further sell it…” you can go for it.
Scope: Craft beer is picking up in Pune and I see a decent growth in coming years only if government policies which affect brewing and selling does not hamper the interest of consumers in bad way.
Two business models: brewing and selling at premises or brewing and selling to restaurants. One can also brew for established breweries who have capacity issue.
Nono brewery or Microbrewery are two options.
Ballpark figure is about 1-3 cr to start with (liberal) which will be based on what you go for.
Majority of people in nano/micro brewing business or related to it in Pune are very friendly, grounded and approachable. You may talk to Shailendra Bisht, Manu Gulati, Saurabh Patwardhan, Akxay Kirpekar, Nakul Bhosle, Rohan Hastak, Rohan Rehani and Sapan Maniyar. Connect with them; they will surely help. In fact I will not be needed further!!!
      Good luck…
